UEFA Europa League 2025/26: Format, Schedule & Teams

The UEFA Europa League 2025/26 features 36 teams competing in the new Swiss-system league format that has replaced the traditional group stage. Each team plays eight matches against eight different opponents - two teams from each of the four seeding pots based on UEFA coefficients, with one home and one away fixture per pot.

Qualification System

Teams finishing 1st-8th advance directly to the Round of 16. Teams ranked 9th-24th compete in knockout play-offs for the remaining eight Round of 16 spots. The bottom 12 teams are eliminated from European competition. The tournament winner earns automatic qualification to the following season's Champions League.
